front matter & 2009 a.2010.01.002 author. : diegochiappetta@y Abstract Objective: Two carvedilol aqueous solutions and one carvedilol aqueous suspension for paediatric oral use (1mg/ml) were studied to determine their stability. Method: All samples were stored at 4, 25 and 401C. Carvedilol content of each of the three formulations was tested using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Each sample was analysed in triplicate at 0, 3, 7, 14, 28 and 56 days. Results: Carvedilol stayed stable in the acidic aqueous solution at the three different temperatures during the 56 days of the study. In the alkaline solution, carvedilol was stable during 56 days at 251C, but only 28 days at 4 and 401C. In the aqueous suspension, carvedilol was stable during 56 days at 4 and 251C, but only 28 days at 401C. Conclusions: All the formulations that were tested can be stored at 251C for at least 56 days. & 2009 SEFH. Published by Elsevier España, S.L. All rights reserved.

Design and physicochemical stability studies of paediatric oral formulations of sildenafil.

Personalized medicine is a challenging research area in paediatric treatments. Elaborating new paediatric formulations when no commercial forms are available is a common practice in pharmacy laboratories; among these, oral liquid formulations are the most common. But due to the lack of specialized equipment, frequently studies to assure the efficiency and safety of the final medicine cannot be ...

Niosomal carriers enhance oral bioavailability of carvedilol: effects of bile salt-enriched vesicles and carrier surface charge

Carvedilol (CRV) is an antihypertensive drug with both alpha and beta receptor blocking activity used to preclude angina and cardiac arrhythmias. To overcome the low, variable oral bioavailability of CRV, niosomal formulations were prepared and characterized: plain niosomes (without bile salts), bile salt-enriched niosomes (bilosomes containing various percentages of sodium cholate or sodium ta...

Microbiological Quality of Paediatric Oral Liquid Drug Formulations during Consumption

This preliminary study was conducted to evaluate the microbiological quality of paediatric oral liquid drug formulations during consumption. Paracetamol, Salbutamol, Cephalexin, Amoxicillin and Lactulose are few oral liquid medicines prescribed in Sri Lanka. These oral liquid medicines are at a greater risk of microbial contamination during consumption. This can lead to co-infection in paediatr...

Extemporaneous Furosemide Suspensions for Pediatrics Use Prepared from Commercially Available Tablets

Objective: Three furosemide aqueous suspensions for paediatric oral usage (2 mg/ml) were investigated to determinate its physicochemical stability under different storage conditions. Method: Formulations using sugar syrup and sugar-free vehicles were stored at 4 and 25 o C and the furosemide content was determined by spectrophotometer. Each sample was analyzed in triplicate at different time po...

Development and stability assessment of liquid paediatric formulations containing sildenafil citrate

The purpose of this study is to develop and improve oral liquids formulations of sildenafil citrate for paediatric use. Four different formulations were developed, which are as follows: two aqueous solutions of sildenafil citrate (2.5 mg/mL), with or without preservatives, and two other solutions of sildenafil in simple syrup (1.25 mg/mL), with or without preservatives. All of the formulations ...
